Why do brands matter?

Brands are everywhere—they’re part of our everyday lives, whether it’s the clothes on our backs or the things we fill our homes with. But a brand is so much more than just a logo. It’s often tied to a lifestyle, a sense of style, and sometimes even a symbol of social status. So why are we so hooked on brands? What is it about them that gets us so invested?

the ideal...

Think about it… most luxury brands sell the ideal that if you buy a product from them your life will change... from lip kits to it bags and from the next hot thing on the runway to the sofa you are sitting on. It’s all about the brand, the idea that you had inside your head when you bought the product. Let’s be honest here, we all have that little movie playing in our heads when we buy a new item... and that’s where marketing comes in. Its job is to kind of create that ideal, that little short film that we have playing inside our minds. that if we go and purchase that shirt with that ridiculous price tag people will look at us different because we are on step closer to the ideal that we try and emulate through our community because that’s the IDEAL that is in trend within our circle and we kind of associate that with power and with the idea of being admired and accepted within that society or group.

WHY DO WE CARE ABOUT FITTING IN?

Even if you admit it or not… we all care about fitting in (in different ways of course) consciously or subconsciously. This is of course part of our human nature. We all want to be a part of something, and that’s a good thing. The problem starts when we fill the need to have certain things in order to belong or when we judge others for not having them or for not caring about those things. We as humans are social beings (some more than others) and we tend to form big or small groups when at the end of the day we communicate and spend time with each other. But we sometimes feel that we want something more than that......and that’s where we start to want validation or acceptance and what is the” easy way” to go about it? To buy in to that ideal that our group has...duh....and to try and be on top of the curve. So, you might ask now “where is the problem here?”. Well, there is an always a thing that comes with a super good deal. We as humans are all different when it comes to personality, ideals and thoughts. So, when you start to lose yourself and to put all of the energy in maintaining that ideal that’s when it’s too much. So how can you control what you buy and how can you make sure that you first buy it for you and then worry about others?

HOW TO DO IT FOR YOU

When you first think of buying an item (especially if you first heard about it because of its brand or because it went viral on social media) you need to pop the question if it wasn't trendy or if it didn't have the tag that it has, would I still want it? If the answer is YES then the chances are that you buy that item 70% for you. If you still have some doubts or if the price suddenly starts to feel much bigger then you should likely think about it more. I find it easy to wait a few weeks and promise myself that if I still want it then I will get it :). You know what they say sometimes we need to wait for the good stuff.

Ultimately you should choose what makes you happy and what fits your budget and style the best :)
